| Southside's Voice of Service since 1947

Since 1947, WSVS has been delivering local news, weather, sports and music to Central Virgina, a growing state of nearly seven million people. Our recent investment in new equipment, software, and refurbished studios allows our powerful, clear signal to reach a growing population of 2.2 million people living, working, and driving the capital city of Richmond (population 800,000) to "lake country," a recreational area halfway between Richmond and Raleigh, North Carolina's capital city. The rapid growth of our listening area is fueled by the economic expansion of the Richmond region and the recently announced base realignment of Ft. Lee near Petersburg.
Radio advertising works because it reaches people in a variety of settings and at different times. It is a mobile medium with the power to inform and entertain at the same time. Most of all, it targets listeners passively – they don’t have to read an ad or see it to get the message. And most of us – when we’re in our car or listening at home – will reach for the volume and turn it up when we hear our favorite song, program or ad. If your ad is catchy, the listeners will turn it up and pay attention to you, too.
Our new production studios and state-of-the-art equipment allow us to:
- Produce creative, professional ads quickly and efficiently
- Broadcast live bands every Saturday at noon
- Broadcast live from your “remote” location.
- Stay on-air during power outages from ice storms and hurricanes.
Our format is classic country and bluegrass -- hugely popular with listeners of all ages. National news is available twenty-four hours a day from The Associated Press and, combined with the talent of News Director, Bill Mason, Program Manager, Steve Winn; and disc jockeys Tony Tucker and Mel Payne, we believe we have a perfect blend of music and information you can’t find anywhere else.
